TOWER HAMLETS HAS A WEALTH of Innovators and Inventors who were born or lived in the borough. Join us on our FREE Story of London’s guided walk and find out more about the lives of world leader Mahatma Gandhi, explorer Captain James Cook, nurse Edith Cavell and Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Engineer.
All the above are part of the Blue Plaque Scheme which recognises and celebrates the lives and contributions made by significant historical figures in England. You will get to learn about the Scheme and other similar schemes in operation in Tower Hamlets.
You will visit their places of residence and hear about their London experiences; you will get to see the places where they stayed and see some unique, original photographs from the Tower Hamlets Local Library and History Archive and listen to the personal stories captured by local archivists.
London City Steps, working in partnership with the Change Community Project, has created the Innovators and Inventors guided walk funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
This walk is was part of the Mayor of London’s cultural campaign Story of London in 2010.
