Developing skills, sharing stories: becoming a London City Steps tour guide

London City Steps trains young people from London's poorest boroughs to become history tour guides. The emphasis on training is to engage young people to tell London’s vibrant history, to gain new skills, to acquire confidence and awareness of the city in which they live. In our experience, employers value these skills which stand out on a CV.

We offer an 8 week course (half a day a week) free of charge, which has a mix of practical and theorical content. For training to be a tour guide we cover a range of subjects, as well as history, and encourage our young people to do as many things as possible for London City Steps (this website was created by one of them).

We also offer them:
Presentation and public speaking skillsMarketing and Sales skillsCommentary and Storytelling skillsResearching skillsJob Interview skillsA skills audit and CV writing

As part of the training, we also enable young people to study for an Open College Network qualification. As a walking tour guide, our classroom is the streets of London, where we train our guides on set routes, very often with scripts they themelves have developed.

If you are unemployed and aged between 18 to 30 or you know someone who might have the skills and enthusiasm to become a London City Steps Tour Guide, contact us today at jobs@londoncitysteps.com.
